El nuevo fichaje blanco, Emmanuel Adebayor, se mostró ilusionado y emocionado en su primera entrevista a Realmadrid TV y Realmadrid.com. El delantero togolés hizo un repaso de su trayectoria y se mostró expectante ante su nuevo reto: "Es un sueño hecho realidad. Nunca soñé que podría llegar al Real Madrid y ahora estoy en el club más grande del mundo".
¿Qué significa para ti jugar en el Real Madrid?
Es un sueño hecho realidad. Nací en África y empecé a jugar al fútbol allí, y nunca soñé que podría llegar al Real Madrid. Soñé con jugar en Europa y lo conseguí, acabando en el Metz, el Mónaco, el Manchester City… Y ahora estoy en el club más grande del mundo, así que esto es un sueño. Estoy muy feliz y me siento muy agradecido.
¿Por qué cambiaste el Manchester City por el Real Madrid?
Tuve una temporada difícil el año pasado después del ataque terrorista que sufrió el autobús de mi selección. Me traumatizó un poco porque no fue una experiencia nada fácil. Estuve entre la vida y la muerte unos minutos y me fue difícil acabar la temporada en forma. El entrenador del equipo tiene ahora una visión que no me incluye y el Real Madrid vino a por mí. No puedo pedir más. Me dije a mí mismo que tenía que venir. Fue difícil, pero al firmar el contrato me relajé más. Estoy muy feliz y con muchas ganas de jugar con el Real Madrid.
Debes de estar contento por poder empezar de cero en 2011 después de lo que pasó en 2010…
Desde luego. El 2010 no comenzó nada bien para mí con el atentado, pero ahora, en 2011, tengo un contrato con el Real Madrid. Ahora mismo estoy en el Santiago Bernabéu y me siento muy agradecido. Este año ha comenzado bien y espero que tenga un buen final. Espero que ganemos títulos y, a nivel personal, quiero marcar muchos goles y conseguir grandes cosas. Para eso estoy aquí. No me malinterpretes, sé que no va a ser fácil, pero trabajaré muy duro para hacer historia en el Real Madrid.
¿Qué papel jugó Mourinho en tu traspaso? ¿Te apetece trabajar con él?
Me enfrenté a él cuando entrenaba al Chelsea y yo jugaba en el Arsenal. Soy muy amigo de varios jugadores africanos, como Eto’o y Drogba, y cada vez que hablaba con ellos sobre Mourinho me decían que me encantaría trabajar con él y que no podía pensármelo dos veces si alguna vez tenía la oportunidad de hacerlo. Estoy muy contento porque trabajó mucho por traerme aquí y lo más importante para mí ahora mismo es no defraudarles ni a él ni al club. Sé que no fue el único, muchas otras personas hicieron muchos esfuerzos para traerme y quiero hacerles felices a todos, marcar muchos goles y disfrutar en el campo.
¿Has tenido oportunidad de hablar con Benzema o Lass?
Llamé a Benzema ayer tras el partido, pero su teléfono estaba apagado. Supongo que estaba en el avión. Con Lass hablé antes del encuentro y me dio la bienvenida y expresó lo contento que estaba con mi llegada. Somos muy amigos porque jugamos juntos en el Arsenal unos meses y hemos mantenido el contacto hasta ahora. Se podría decir que aquí tengo una familia. También jugué contra Ronaldo cuando estaba en Manchester. Estoy en un gran club y conozco a mucha gente. Sé que van a hacer todo lo posible para ayudarme y hacerme sentir cómodo.
¿Seguías la Liga española por la televisión?
Naturalmente. La mayoría de los partidos en Inglaterra tienen lugar entre las doce y las tres de la tarde, así que podía ver los partidos del Real Madrid y del Barcelona por la tarde-noche. La Liga española y la Premier son muy distintas. Esta última es, sin duda, mucho más física. La española es más técnica y tiene más jugadores que poseen un gran manejo del balón. He jugado con David Silva en Manchester y es un gran jugador español. Las diferencias son notables, pero soy futbolista y tendré que adaptarme. Espero hacerlo rápidamente.

Emmanuel Adebayor es consciente de que tiene que reducir al máximo el tiempo de adaptación al equipo y por ello no quiere perder ni un minuto. A pesar de que el primer equipo tiene jornada de descanso, el delantero africano se puso a las órdenes de Toril para ejercitarse con el Castilla en el Alfredo Di Stéfano, con la presencia de Mourinho y antes de ser presentado oficialmente a las 13:00 horas en el Bernabéu como nuevo futbolista del Real Madrid.
A las 10:30 horas estaban citados los jugadores del filial en el Alfredo Di Stéfano para llevar a cabo su habitual sesión de entrenamiento. Con lo que no contaban era con la presencia del nuevo refuerzo del primer equipo, Emmanuel Adebayor, quien apenas 24 horas después de aterrizar en Madrid se ejercitó como uno más con el equipo de Toril. El futbolista togolés conoció además a dos de sus nuevos compañeros, Esteban Granero y Pedro León, que también se entrenaron con el filial.
La condición física de Adebayor es óptima (aunque lleve cerca de un mes sin disputar un partido oficial) y se encuentra preparado para debutar en cuanto lo requiera Mourinho, como se pudo comprobar en la hora y media que duró la sesión. El delantero completó el trabajo al mismo ritmo que el resto de sus compañeros y dejó detalles de su gran calidad.
No sólo es potencia y goles. Una de sus virtudes es su facilidad para proteger el balón y distribuir el juego en las inmediaciones del área rival, un aspecto que domina a la perfección, tal y como se observó en el terreno de juego en los distintos ejercicios que llevó a cabo. Su mejor aliado y anfitrión en las primeras horas como jugador del Real Madrid fue Esteban Granero, con el que se le vio hablar durante buena parte del entrenamiento.
José Mourinho y el resto del cuerpo técnico acudieron a Valdebebas para estar pendientes en todo momento de su nuevo pupilo. También presenciaron la sesión de trabajo Zidedine Zidane y el director deportivo, Miguel Ángel Pardeza. Todos quisieron dar la bienvenida a Adebayor y arroparle para que se acople cuanto antes. Una vez finalizada su primera sesión preparatoria, el jugador puso rumbo al Santiago Bernabéu para firmar el contrato y ser presentado oficialmente.
